Spike Lee Releases New Short Film on Police Brutality

Spike Lee has shared a new short film in response to the murder of George Floyd. Titled 3 Brothers – Radio Raheem, Eric Garner And George Floyd, the picture spotlights the murders of Eric Garner and George Floyd, as well as Radio Raheem in Lee’s 1989 movie, Do the Right Thing.

Lee premiered the film over the weekend while appearing on a CNN special called I Can’t Breath: Black Men Living and Dying In America. After opening with the question: Will History Stop Repeating Itself?, the picture features a scene of the death of Radio Raheem from Do the Right Thing, in addition to videos of the Garner and Floyd murders. Each of the three black men were killed in similar fashion, at the hands of white police officers.

“This is history again, and again and again…The attack on black bodies has been here from the get-go,” Lee said during an interview with Don Lemon for the CNN special. “I am not condoning all this other stuff but I understand why people are doing what they are doing.”
