Daniel Johnston’s Jeff Tweedy-Assisted Final Chicago Concert Gets New Live Album

Tweedy have announced Chicago 2017, a new live album recorded with Daniel Johnston during his final Chicago performance at the Vic Theater on October 20, 2017. The limited vinyl-only release is due out January 31 via Wilco’s dBpm Records and includes an additional session recorded at Wilco’s loft studio in Chicago’s Irving Park neighborhood. Check out their version of “Worried Shoes” below.

Proceeds from the record will benefit the Hi, How Are You Project, a non-profit started with the support of Daniel and his family that funds and creates content, projects and events to “inspire new conversations around mental health issues.” The organization is hosting a “Hi, How Are You Day” benefit concert January 22 in Austin, Texas, Johnston’s hometown. Johnston died from a heart attack in September 2019.

In a statement, Jeff Tweedy said, “There is and was only one Daniel and to be able to work with him and help present his music was a huge honor for me and the band, one for which we are all very thankful.”
