Here’s What We’re Buying From the Needles FW19 Collection

[ad_1]

Housed under the illustrious NEPENTHES umbrella, Needles is a brand that needs very little introduction. Under the guidance of Keizo Shimizu, it has developed a reputation for driving design’s envelope forward with each new season.

Inspired by Shimizu’s admiration of American-made product and film — with him crediting the western world as his “playground” when growing up — the label works through its reference’s more daring silhouettes with an undeniable finesse and ease. Given this off-kilter personality, getting into Needles can be challenging at times. Understanding this, we have put in the leg work and rounded up a selection of our favorite pieces from its latest Fall/Winter offering.

I’ll admit, I was a tad skeptical when these first reared their heads, but as with most other designs endorsed by Mr. Shimizu, my opinion was changed one short season later. The coverall above has something particularly rebellious about it, and exemplifies the beauty in imperfection; a trait key to the Needles design philosophy.

This semi-formal notch-lapel blazer speaks to the brand’s affinity for the western world’s movie stars. With a velvet finish and diamond stitch detailing adding a touch of elegance to any streetwear ensemble.

Anyone who knows me will know how I feel about Needles’ mohair cardigans. My love for this product goes so deep that if I had to wear a single piece for the rest of my life, it would probably be one of these… I’ll leave it at that.

The touch of the design’s fabric alone is enough to send us back to the cardigan’s humble beginnings. Fitting slightly slimmer to the popular mohair variation listed above, this release is a classic, no-frills winter warmer.

Coming in at a slightly higher price point, this piece is yet another homage to the brand’s cinematic inspirations. The design features purple piping throughout, contrasting embroidery, and swooped chest pockets.

A considered balance of chic and extravagant, this particular shirt makes me long to be an extra on something like ‘The Big Lebowski’.

Whether you’re new to Needles or have been courting it for years, anything from its Rebuild line is like butter to bread. Although I feel the 7 Cuts Flannel has “had” its moment (more than once), seeing this reminds me to check back on this underestimated line.

Much like the coverall jacket discussed earlier, these follow very much the same rebel-but-make-it-fashion feel. The design’s utilitarian cut is accentuated by a contrasting red stripe along both of its sides.

Needles’ Track Pants are arguably one of its most recognizable silhouettes. Bar their hugely popular side-stripe detailing, the central pleat and embroidered butterfly are enough to let the onlookers know exactly whose team you’re on.

Suitably aligned with the brand’s beloved butterfly logo, the Silk Bandana can be worn (and used) in any number of ways. Give every outfit a pop of texture and color with this piece.
