Eminem and Rihanna perform 2014 MTV movie awards

Last week, a snippet from a 2009 Eminem track surfaced online and it featured a verse in which the rapper voiced his support of Chris Brown in the Rihanna assault case. Now, the rapper’s representative has responded to the controversy.

According to XXL, the track in question, “Things Get Worse,” was originally recorded for Eminem’s 2009 album Relapse. On it he controversially raps, “I’m not playing, Rihanna, where’d you get t he V.D. at?” He continues, “Let me add my two cents / Of course I side with Chris Brown / I’d beat a b*tch down, too if she gave my dick an itch now.”

Eminem’s rep, Dennis Dennehy, has since responded to the contentious lyrics. In a statement made to XXL, Dennehy explained that the track “is a leak of something that’s over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship.”

Since then Rihanna and Eminem have collaborated on numerous occasions, including on the hit songs “Love the Way You Lie,” “The Monster,” and “Numb.” They also co-headlined “The Monster” mini-tour in 2014.
