Apple TV+ Recruits Former HBO CEO Richard Plepler to Develop Original Content

After resigning from his role in February, former HBO CEO Richard Plepler is reportedly in talks to join the team at Apple‘s new streaming service, Apple TV+. Multiple news outlets have covered the story, first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

If all goes according to speculation, Plepler would get an exclusive production deal with Apple to develop original content under his new company, RLP & Co. Per an individual close to the situation, “A deal could be finalized within the next few weeks,” WSJ reports.

Plepler began his work with HBO in 1992 before becoming CEO in 2012. He notably helped the network solidify itself as the go-to provider of Sunday night TV entertainment. He resigned as CEO following AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner, now known as WarnerMedia. Plepler was joined by other executives to leave HBO after AT&T promised to lead the network in a new direction.

Apple’s all-new streaming service, Apple TV+, launched earlier this month on November 1.
