The Story So Far Set Their Sights on Japan in “If I Fall”

The Story So Far has been staying afloat within the pop-punk scene for over a decade now. Last year, the California band dropped their fourth album, Proper Dose. The transformative project sees the five-piece striving to bridge the gap between past and future selves, and finding some sort of balance within the present. It’s about growing up and coming to terms with growing out of things so you can keep moving forward with the rest of your life.

Today, we’re premiering The Story So Far’s music video for “If I Fall” directed by longtime collaborator Eric Soucy. In an email to Highsnobiety, frontman Parker Cannon told us that the track is about “self-doubt and dealing with pressure.” Soucy’s vision for the immersive visual was to “create a journey in which Parker was the sole main character in an unfamiliar environment” while also being respectful of Japanese culture to capture the most genuine experience possible.

Over the span of 10 days, Soucy and his crew used a handheld wind-up camera with Super 16 and Super 8 film that could only shoot around 23 seconds at a time. He adds, “We also wanted to create a video that is fun for the viewers because most people unfortunately don’t get the chance to travel to Japan so we wanted them to be able to feel like they really got an idea of what you could experience there. We wanted to inspire people to want to visit one of the most beautiful and kind nations in the world.”

Proper Dose is out now via Pure Noise Records and available on streaming services. Get lost with The Story So Far in the beautiful scenery below.
