Editor’s Notes: Shoes 53045, the brainchild of former Demna Gvasalia and Jean Paul Gaultier collaborator David Tourniaire-Beauciel, aka the guy behind the Balenciaga Triple S, has unveiled its latest iteration of the mega-bulky Bump’Air silhouette. This time, the sneaker takes on a decidedly gothic, hardware-adorned style, featuring studs and spikes on the toe box and chains along the sides of the shoes.

According to Tourniaire-Beauciel, the Bump’Air Black Gothic was inspired by the music he listened to in his youth, including Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Kiss. The designer also pulled from disparate influences such as puffer fish, bondage gear, and space pirate cartoon character Captain Harlock (a childhood favorite).
