RIMOWA joins forces with contemporary art magazine KALEIDOSCOPE for a special exhibition in celebration of Milan Design Week 2019. The collaboration focuses the spotlight on Spanish designer Guillermo Santomá, who is known for blending art and function in a surreal manner, as he has reinterpreted the premium luggage brand’s aluminium casing into a gas station-inspired installation.

The exhibition, aptly dubbed GAS, is located inside Milan’s social space Spazio Maiocchi, and places an emphasis on a fully-functioning, RIMOWA-aluminium-panelled car that performs as a light and sound sculpture. The exhibition draws its inspiration from Santomá’s admiration of the US West Coast and also pays tribute to pop artist Ed Ruscha’s Twentysix Gasoline Stations series, from where the exhibition derives its title.

Additionally, a photographic book and short film captured by Thibaut Grevet further delves into the work and construction of this exhibition, spotlighting the creative input implemented, which rounds out RIMOWA’s Milan Design Week offering.
