Captain Marvel raked in an historic $455 million box office total for its global opening weekend.
The Brie Larson-starring Marvel epic is significant as the studio’s first superhero film to be exclusively headlined by a female character. But it’s also significantly breaking down profit barriers. It now has the second largest global opening of any superhero movie, coming in behind Avengers: Infinity War ($640.5m in 2018).
To put the film into a broader context, it now sits behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II ($483.2 million), Jurassic World ($525.5 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($529 million), Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) and of course, Avengers: Infinity War.
