Editor’s Notes: Last fall, Nike announced that AMBUSH’s Yoon Ahn would be one of a number of new collaborators it would be working with. While Ahn’s debut collection, featuring an incredibly cozy fur jacket, has already been released, sneakerheads have been eagerly awaiting the Korean-American designer’s retooled Air Max 180.
“The Air Max 180 is the first pair of sneakers I ever bought with my own money,” says Ahn. “I wanted it so badly, having seen it in the pages of a magazine.”
A highly limited number of the white version dropped at NikeLab 21 Mercer in New York City last month, and we’re now getting our first look at product shots of the black colorway. The Air Max 180’s tooling sits under the Air Zoom Flight’s zip-up cover, although the product shots don’t reveal what lies beneath the shroud, keeping a little mystery for now.
The idea of adding elements from the Air Zoom Flight, aka “The Glove,” came to Ahn during a visit to Beaverton: “When I visited the Nike archive, I saw “The Glove.” It looks so cozy, so comfortable from afar. I wanted to capture that feeling and fully wrap the foot.”
With the emergence of these product images, the sneaker is expected to drop in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for further updates.
