Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has revealed that he’s considering adding something similar to an edit button in the form of a clarification feature, allowing users to go back and add context to old tweets.

As reported by Recode, Dorsey unveiled his plan at a Goldman Sachs event on Thursday. “The other thing that we’re seeing more broadly within the culture right now in this particular moment is people quote-unquote ‘being cancelled’ because of past things that they’ve said on Twitter or various other places in social media,” Dorsey said.

“There’s no credible way to kind of go back and clarify or even have a conversation to show the learning and the transition since.”

While the exact details aren’t confirmed, Dorsey said that the clarification tweet would be attached to the original one, so the old tweet couldn’t be shared without additional context.

While the feature is designed to expand on old, potentially problematic tweets, it would also work for journalists sharing breaking news stories — and be a way to fix any typos on viral posts.
