Designer: Eckhaus Latta

Location: New York Fashion Week

Season: FW19

Key Pieces: Cozy fur coats, relaxed pinstriped three-button suits, ruched bouclé topcoats, and boxy-toed UGG boots.

Editor’s Notes: Eckhaus Latta is a line that exists to push boundaries. Designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta are known for silhouettes that toe the line between formal and casual, feminine and masculine, commercial and avant-garde. Staple items like suits and denim receive a signature touch that places them within the context of the label.

These are the codes they’ve built on from season to season, as well as holding shows in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the warehouse-filled neighborhood that’s became the new go-to spot for young creatives of all industries (Danny Bowien, the purveyor of Mission Chinese Food who walked in last season’s Eckhaus Latta show, just opened a restaurant in Bushwick this year).

Appropriately, the show took place in a small-yet-cavernous warehouse space, which is the kind of venue you’d expect to see a fashion show in Bushwick. This season also marks a new collaboration with UGG, a footwear label that is actively trying to lead the conversation on hypernormal brands as the new avant-garde. The resulting collab consists of several heeled clogs for women accented with fur, and two men’s silhouettes. The first is a boxy-toed rendition of the classic UGG boot, and the other is a backless slide that elevates the indoor house shoe into something equal parts rugged and cozy.
