Kanye West is donating $10 million to the Turrell Art Foundation, a cause that supports artist James Turrell’s work embedding artworks into the wall of an extinct volcano in northern Arizona, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Turrell has been embedding his work in the volcano for over four decades, carving tunnels into the crater since 1977. The tunnels lead to temple-like rooms, which — due to the variation in ceiling openings — create different hues depending on factors like the time of day or the weather.
Turrell’s goal is to open the space up to the public in five years, requiring hefty donations from art enthusiasts such as West. So far, $40 million has been raised for the project.
While you’re here, let’s discuss whether 2019 be the year Kanye redeems himself.
