The Fall/Winter 2018 season showed that some of this year’s hottest womenswear trends are still going strong, spanning everything from tactical and fetishwear to bold hues such as frozen yellow (or volt, for Swoosh aficionados) asserting themselves on fashion’s color palette.
And while we’ve extensively covered the trends that have struck a chord in men’s fashion all year long (and you’ll see plenty of crossover here, with the lines between menswear and womenswear continuing to blur), here we’re bringing you some of the FW18 women’s trends that most excited us — ones we look forward to seeing develop over the coming seasons.

The chest harness became one of the hottest fashion accessories of 2018, first rocked by some of the biggest names in hip hop before being adopted by stylish attendees of Paris Fashion Week. And tactical accessories haven’t stopped at chest rigs, with the trend also manifesting through industrial belts, vests, utility holsters, and technical pants.
When it comes to tactical wear, the most notable brands for women this season were 1017 ALYX 9SM and Samuel Ross’ A-COLD-WALL*, with relatively smaller names such as HELIOT EMIL and DR14 also offering tactical garms. Luxury fashion brands got in on the act, too, with Prada offering its own take on tech wear in its most recent collection.
The return of the power suit is a comeback we’ve been waiting for. No longer the reserve of high-powered businesswomen, the trend seems to have reemerged with the ’80s and ’90s revival. This evolution of an office staple into fashion week-friendly attire was at its strongest during FW18.
New suits are oversized, in line with the ongoing maximalist trend, sporting everything from plaid and check patterns to tactile velvet fabrics. Highsnobiety favorites included pieces from Gucci in collaboration with Major League Baseball, particularly the New York Yankees capsule, which included a pinstriped suit sporting the team’s logo on its front pocket.
This was a humungous year for Prada for both men and women. The Italian fashion house’s repurposing of archival prints such as bananas, flames, and stars was applied to everything from bowling shirts and jackets to pants and accessories — and that was just the start.
Recent Prada output was about way more than just in-your-face prints. In the most recent season, the luxury house thrived with its technical pieces, such as vests and bags, and bold color pops of neon green and fuchsia, along with ever more interesting iterations of its Cloudbust sneaker. It’s easy to see why women in head-to-toe Prada became a fixture in recent fashion week street style round-ups.
Nike calls it “volt,” while YEEZY-heads will be more than familiar with the term “frozen yellow.” To the rest of us, it’s just neon yellow, and the color’s comeback was as in your face as the retina-searing shade itself. Appearing among YEEZY’s 2017 output, it was also used by Nike, Balenciaga, Palace, and more last year — and FW18 was when it shone brightest.
Notable recent uses of the color have come on Nike’s latest OFF-WHITE Air Force 1s, a vibrant version of the adidas Continental 80, and the recently restocked YEEZY Boost 350 V2 “Semi Frozen Yellow.”
Away from your feet, streetwear and luxury labels have been serving up neon yellow apparel and accessories, with brands such as Stüssy, Heron Preston, Helmut Lang, and Balenciaga repping a color that is sure to liven up even the dreariest winter days as we move into the year ahead.
If you thought chunky sneakers were going anywhere soon, think again. The trend remains as strong as ever, with some of our favorite releases to date having come only recently.
While sportswear labels such as adidas and Nike dropped chunky creps among their general releases, they also linked up with fashion brands to deliver even chunkier silhouettes. The Three Stripes delivered some of its dopest skate shoes to date in collaboration with Alexander Wang, while Nike recently joined forces with COMME des GARÇONS to create a Cortez with an insane 2.5-inch platform sole.
