Conor McGregor Accused of Racism After Mayweather-Nasukawa ‘Rush Hour’ Jibe

It was revealed at a Tokyo press conference earlier this week that Floyd Mayweather would come out of retirement to fight Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an unspecified combat sports match on New Year’s Eve. Mayweather has since distanced himself from the bout, clarifying that he had only agreed to a small exhibition match and, in fact, hadn’t even heard of Nasukawa prior to arriving in Tokyo.

The initial news was treated with scepticism, with combat sport observers quick to express their surprise at the matchup. One notable person to comment was Mayweather’s last opponent, Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, who shared his thoughts on Instagram. “What in the fuck is going on here? Who’s this little prick next to you?” read McGregor’s caption.

“That’s mad shit. Chris tucker and Jackie fucking Chan back in this bitch,” McGregor continued, comparing the two fighters to the stars of the Rush Hour film series. “Fucking brilliant. Mad little bastard you are Floyd. Fair fucks to you mate. No lie. Fuck it.”

McGregor has since been accused of racism for his comments, with various social media users having their say.

This isn’t the first time McGregor has faced accusations of racism. Prior to his fight with Mayweather last year, which McGregor lost by a 10th-round technical knockout, he drew criticism after trash-talking the American by saying, “Dance for me, boy!” McGregor denied being racist, responding, “Do they not know I’m half-black? Yeah, I’m half-black from the bellybutton down.”

Nasukawa posted a measured response to McGregor on Tuesday, writing, “Hello, Mr. McGregor. My Name is Tenshin Nasukawa. I am not Jackie Chan. I promise to avenge your loss, so please watch my fight.”

McGregor’s next move remains unclear. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is currently waiting for the outcome of a disciplinary hearing following the brawl that erupted after his recent defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
