Chance the Rapper Surprise-Releases Four New Songs

It’s not an album, but Chance the Rapper has gifted fans with four new surprise songs. Taking to Twitter, the Chicago artist revealed new music was now available on his website: “Work Out,” “Wala Cam,” “I Might Need Security,” and “65th and Ingleside.”

The four tracks include notable shoutouts and references. “Wala Calm,” features fellow Chicago rapper Supa Bwe, while “65th” points to longtime collaborator Childish Gambino: “All my raps was about suspension/Then one day Donald took me on tour/Young, broke Chano ain’t broke no more.” Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel also received a shoutout.

More importantly, the rapper reveals on “I Might Need Security,” that “I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches outta business.” The claim was later confirmed by Gothamist and a statement from the artist which read, “I look forward to re-launching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”

The sudden release follows uncertainty over whether Chance would be unveiling a new record this week after an interview with the Chicago Tribune quoted him as saying a new project was “going to come out just in time for the Special Olympics,” which takes place July 21. The release was disputed by Chance, but did write “def been in the studio tho.”

The four new songs are available over at Apple Music or you can stream them via YouTube below.
