Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine Lose $25 Million in Beats Lawsuit

Dr. Dre and his Beats Electronics co-founder, Interscope Records mogul Jimmy Iovine, have been ordered to pay former partner Steven Lamar $25 million in royalties, The Guardian reports. The verdict arrives after Lamar and his company Jibe Audio filed a lawsuit against Dre and Iovine, accusing them of using his designs for Beats headphones without adequate compensation.

Claiming that he’d provided ideas for a dozen different models of headphones, Lamar’s suit requested payment to the tune of $130 million. The defendants acknowledged Lamar’s input but argued that he was involved in initial plans only and was owed for just one model of headphones, for which he had already been paid.

After three days of deliberations, the jury at Los Angeles Superior Court concluded in a 9-3 vote that Lamar was owed for three of the headphone models, awarding him $25,247,350 in total.

Next, Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ is confirmed to be a double album.
