Ex Infinitas SS19 Is Surfwear for the Internet Era

Ex Infinitas showed their SS19 “NOWAVE” collection at Paris Fashion Week. The Australian label developed ideas of traditional surfwear, but realized through the ways in which people now surf every single day, i.e. surfing the web.

Board shorts were extended into tailored trousers and the oversized top layers featured beach-ready details such as thermo-bonded neon tape (reminiscent of life guard jackets) added onto the chest and sleeves.

The color story indicated a post-gender outlook on menswear with cotton-candy pink and electric yellow taking lead, meanwhile graphic prints with phrases such as “I thought the future would be cooler” and “fuck this” communicated a nostalgia for when internet culture was still in its infancy. The ambiguous, hybrid-styles are reminiscent of cult ’90s movie Hackers (slide #8 for reference), and the offerings revel in the current zeitgeist of tech over-saturation, and the digital universe that now runs parallel to our everyday life.

Check out the looks – including shiny Wellington boots and club-ready vests – in the gallery above.

“Surf, whether a sport or a web metaphor, stands as a symbolism for freedom and self-expression” commented Lukas Vincent, designer of Ex Infinitas.
