Alexandre Mattiussi hit the runway at Paris Fashion Week today to present AMI’s SS19 collection. Leading on from a dapper, borderline-collegiate Fall/Winter 2018 presentation, AMI’s latest show was set amongst a leveled crop field, reminiscent of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn. The smoke, warm lighting, and harped soundtrack also greatly added to this year’s theme.

The collection was for the most part subdued in its color choice, and defied many of the fashion faux pas spearheaded by fashion houses such as Prada over the years; socks and sandals, and lightweight coats coupled with short shorts. As each model ascended the stairs, their stylings mirrored what one might expect to see coming over the crest of a farmer’s hill; Fair Isle knits, oversized checked shirting, satchels, and volumous, drawstring headwear, hinting at the fashioning continually explored by New York stalwart, Engineered Garments.

Among this, the presentation showed an expected array of color-blocking and classic Parisian striping, as well as sporty half-zip jackets, box-cut shorts, and polished footwear, all accentuated by metallic carabiners, helping add a degree of harshness to an otherwise comfortable, village-like collection. Full denim looks, coupled with blocks of bright red also created parallels to past collections.
