MTV to Revive ‘Daria’ for Latest Reboot Attempt

According to Variety, MTV is in the process of bringing back Daria to a screen near you. At the moment, the new series is tentatively titled Daria & Jodie and will focus on how the “two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race.”

The iconic cartoon originally aired on the network from 1997 to 2001. This reinterpretation is part of a larger initiative to launch MTV Studios. Deadline reports that the production unit will be responsible for “developing and producing reboots, revivals and spin-offs of series.” The team is also planning on reviving shows like The Real World, MADE, and Aeon Flux. The network previously rebooted its historic countdown show TRL in 2017. MTV president Chris McCarthy released a statement to the press on the latest development:

“MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” he said. “With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners.”

For the record, we’re still waiting on that film adaptation of Daria starring Aubrey Plaza—CollegeHumor might have been joking about it, but we’re certainly not. How do you feel about the prospect of a Daria reboot? Sound off in the comments below.
