A few months ago, Taylor Bennett announced his forthcoming EP Be Yourself in an exclusive interview with us. Today, the 25-year-old rapper is finally ready to share the title track with the world. The Stix-produced jam features Chicago singer Bianca Shaw and is a celebration of individuality and touches on his experience as a bisexual black man. No doubt that it’s destined to become an instant anthem for Pride Month.

Bennett recently spoke with TIME about the inspiration behind the song, the messages that he’s trying to deliver to his fans, and the strains on his relationship with the black community after coming out.
“Something that I want for not just children but all my listeners— no matter if you’re gay, straight, white, black, rich or poor— is understanding the power of being yourself,” he said. “As children, very early we’re pressured into automatically being a part of groups. I want kids to understand that being yourself is important. [In] America, we have extremely high suicide rates and a lot [of that] stems from feeling like you don’t belong, feeling isolated. And the problem is that everybody around you is so selfish.”
A release date for the project has not been revealed at this time. Stream the single in full below.
