Tom Cruise Confirms ‘Top Gun’ 2 Has Begun Filming

In Hollywood, remakes and reboots are all the rage. Taking to Instagram today, Tom Cruise has confirmed that Top Gun 2 has begun filming after having stated his intentions to resume the role of Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in March of 2017.

Helmet in hand, plane in the background, and the words “feel the need” on prominent display – which references Maverick’s iconic statement from the original – Top Gun 2 is being directed by Joseph Kosinski who worked alongside Cruise on Oblivion.

Top Gun: Maverick is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
