No, Beyonce Didn’t Buy a Church in New Orleans for $850,000

Given Beyoncé’s god-like status, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that the singer would purchase a place of worship. According to reports which swept the internet on Sunday, the Lemonade singer reportedly bought a century-old church for $850,000.

The building is located at 2930 Camp Street in New Orleans’s Garden District — coincidently, the same area in which Beyonce’s sister Solange lives. The church, which currently measures at 7,500 square feet, was originally built in the 1900s but has been reported as out of use due to the passing of several members.

Despite the claim, a recent report by Curbed has since suggested that singer didn’t actually purchase the building, but rather, the Noble Jones Trust did. Signing off on the official paperwork was a close friend to the Knowles’ family, Vernell Jackson Keys. (Tina Knowles, mother of Beyonce and Solange, called Keys her “best friend since sixth grade” in a 2015 Instagram post).

Curbed also noted that the mailing address for the church is linked to a home that Solange purchased back in 2014 on 927 St. Ann Street, as per the Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office.

To recap, Beyonce may be indirectly linked to the church, but she did not purchase it as suggested.

Elsewhere, a church in San Francisco recently held a Beyoncé-themed service, dubbed on Twitter as #BeyonceMass. According to ABC News, the service took place at the Grace Cathedral and targeted young women worshippers, with several songs from the singer’s catalog played during the sermon.
