Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit.
This year’s Met Gala theme revolves on “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” which essentially explores fashion’s relationship with the Catholic church. Designs from Coco Chanel, John Galliano, and Cristóbal Balenciaga, alongside 40 pieces on loan from the Vatican will be showcased.
