As previously reported, Avengers: Infinity War smashed box office records over the weekend, raking in a nearly unbelievable $640 million USD worldwide. To celebrate this remarkable achievement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy signed a special note to Marvel (although both franchises are owned by Disney) with a picture of a lightsaber being handed over to Iron Man alongside the text: “From a galaxy far, far away…to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes…congratulations on the biggest opening weekend in history! From Kathy and everyone at Lucasfilm!”

The note was shared via Twitter and references domestic box office figures, which show Avengers: Infinity War earning an estimated $250 million in its opening weekend, while the previous record was held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which enjoyed a $248 million domestic debut.
As Fandango’s managing editor Erik Davis noted on Twitter, Kennedy’s note continues a tradition between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, who congratulated each other on breaking their previous records using characters from their films. Spielberg congratulated Lucas with a picture showing R2D2 fishing Jaws out of the sea. Lucas then congratulated Spielberg with an image showing Star Wars characters holding ET aloft.
