Key Pieces: Bowling shirts, mechanic’s jackets, military shirts, work pants.
Editor’s Notes: Union’s SS18 collection is a nod to old school American workwear staples, as owner Chris Gibbs seeks to convey the timelessness found in his go-to vintage finds.
Garments including mechanic’s jackets, military shirts, and work pants have been deconstructed and reinterpreted with a laid-back summer palette, ultimately showcasing boxy, slightly cropped fits. Each piece has in turn been cut from fine Japanese fabrics such as cotton twill and canvas, the majority of which welcome custom patches, referencing Charles Mingus, a Watts-area legend, and Stokeley Carmichael, one of Gibbs’ favorite icons of the Black Power movement.
Union SS18 is set to launch in conjunction with the opening of Union Tokyo, arriving in-store at Union Los Angeles and Union Tokyo, as well as online, beginning April 21.
