Professor Q-Tip is in the building, or at least, he will be. As reported by The Boombox, NYU has announced that the frontman of A Tribe Called Quest will be co-teaching a course on “the intersection of jazz and hip-hop” at the university’s Tisch School of the Arts this fall. Considering his work with Tribe is the bedrock of this musical meeting point, it’s safe to say that he’s a good fit for the job.

In a statement on his new position, Q-Tip says that “I couldn’t be more excited to share with the students what I know and I look forward to them also teaching me… Teaching is an exchange of sharing and receiving for all involved.” According to NYU’s course description, the lucky students who will attend will be “completing in-class and out-of-class assignments under Q-Tip’s mentorship,” while covering such subjects as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Public Enemy, and Kendrick Lamar. The fomo is real.
