Jakob Ogawa’s “Velvet Light” Is Masterful Bedroom Pop

It’s not for nothing that Tyler, The Creator has been sliding into Jakob Ogawa’s DMs. The 19-year old (!) singer hailing from Oslo, Norway has effortlessly nailed the kind of lo-fi bedroom pop that straddles the line between ebulliently-warm and achingly-heartbreaking that Tyler chased on his last album Flower Boy. For proof, look no further than “Velvet Light”, Ogawa’s first single of 2018 making its world premiere right here. Listen below.

Ogawa’s ethereal vocals make for a blissful contrast with the earthiness of his production, and it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that he is set to have a breakout year. If “Velvet Light” is any indication as to how he follows up last year’s sublime Bedroom Tapes EP, then we should all be expecting to hear his honeyed vocals as the soundtrack to all of our summer heartbreaks this year.

Last year, Jakob Ogawa stopped by the revered COLORS Berlin studio for a rendition of his track “Let It Pass”. Revisit that below.
