Former Nelson Mandela’s wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela joins guests as they toasted in celebration of her 78th birthday party held at Vilakazi’s street in Soweto.

As the world mourns the death of political stalwart and anti-apartheid activist Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela-Mandela who died on April 2 at the age of 81, celebrities also shared their messages of condolences on social media platforms.

Madikizela-Mandela died after a long illness on Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones.

“She died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones,” read a family statement.

Speaking outside Madikizela-Mandela’s Soweto’s home on Monday night, President Ramaphosa confirmed that the struggle veteran’s “official funeral” will take place on April 14.
